And rubbish it certainly is. Then again half of these newspapers just like to provoke reactions- it gets people talking, and newspapers sold.
but it aint a newspaper column , its a direct speech made to the seanad in front of his peers . None of whom told him to get the feck out of it . And which was praised by leading members of the elected house also . Possible future ministers of this horrible little deranged and diseased little country .

Well I mean Harris' overall contributions to the Sunday Independent can make the newspaper appear a bit sensationalist at times.

I wonder would Eoghan Harris make such a speech before the House of Lords or US Senate, and expect a good response?

2 catholic priests - Fr Faul and Fr Raymond Murray exposed a lot of it quite diligently while eoghan harris did his absolute damndest to make sure the irish population remained ignorant of it .
a brush shaft inserted roughly into the anus and other sexual humiliations commited upon young men often only 16 or 17 years old was a favoured method of the british army to extract even low level information in their barracks -particularly palace barracks and holywood . It frequently happened in RUC interrogations also . Many young men suffered horrible injuries . That was a major reason why the conflict got so bitter and these same young men were more than prepared to go to such extremes to kill british soldiers , why there was so much absolute hatred of them.

Thanks for the heads-up. I just might try that.

Justine McCarthy wrote a book about the abuse of hundreds of children within Irish swimming by several swimming coaches and its subsequent cover-up by the authorities.

I don't think Republicanism has any particular association with Irish swimming.

Below we have the Telegraph arguing that the Church scandal is as Irish as it is Catholic:

Myers, the man who laughs at, and mocks, southern Irish people more than an any other went a step further than psycho Harris a month or two agao. He actually blamed the 1916 martyrs for clerical abuse! A few days earlier (or later) he wrote that Irish people are inherently mentally retarded.

Aaaanyway, don't forget to support Sir Anthony and his lick-spittles by buying the Indo tomorrow. It makes them giggle at us when we buy their muck.
A P.ie moderator stated this on June 25th 2010: P.ie tolerates very broad free speech, and thus allows sectarian bigotry etc

indeed leave it to the telegraph to make the link between the effects of hundreds of years of brutal colonialism and the completely fecked up mentality that produces alcoholism , mental weakness and various forms of abuse from physical , emotional and sexual being endmemic in the population subjected to such horrors for centuries . The complete reverse of the point harris makes .

He explained that Ireland has for centuries tolerated levels of domestic violence and alcoholism that are much higher than those in other Catholic cultures. There’s no single, neat explanation for this – but the brutality of English colonial oppression certainly rubbed off on society. Rural Ireland until the 1970s was basically a Third World country; it still had a peasantry (thanks in part to the English) that was, by definition, very badly educated. We’ll never know for sure how many fathers of families were violent drunks, but the proportion was high compared to most of Europe. And this is the culturally and intellectually impoverished class from which many of the Christian Brothers were recruited.
It’s not just a liberal cliché to say that the cycle of violence works down the generations: the brothers from several Congregations were raised among violence and booze and behaved like their fathers, or their own abusive teachers, once they were in positions of authority themselves

The article is full of abusive deluded opinion which subtly shifts all blame of all types of child abuse on to the shoulders of republicans without any reference to real events of the time, absurdly sickly surreal material, and stated in the seanad

Yeah an amazing admission considering the source. I think there's a lot in that piece.
