    Publish All Oireachtas Expenses

Well done to the Labour party for dealing with O Donohoe. My fear however is that this will be end of the story. Now that we have the issue out in the open, isn't it time to seize the opportunity and examine the expenses claimed by all Oireachtas members and senior public servants? Let's collect and publish all of them and then we can judge what needs to change. Let's get it all out and totally reform this abuse of the taxpayer, and let's do it all out in the open. This is a chance for reform, a chance for the oppostion to show that it's about more than getting a scalp, and a chance for the government to attempt to make it right. Let's get all the information out there and show the taxpayers what they are getting for their money.

This could well be the case. Afterall, remember the sudden and pressing need to appoint "partnership managers" the last time Labour were in power? |If they do not announce something more systematic than "let's get O'Donaghue", then it clearly demostrates that they are only interested in the issue in so far as they can score points from it.

100% agreed! Although it did take Labour a little long to set things in motion.. And i laughed at the way FG jumped on the bandwagon once labour was first out of the traps.

Publish everything to do with expenses. Cut the waste and/or wasteful TDs, cut their salaries and expenses and then we can worry about filling the seats with useful and worthwhile politicians.

    I agree 100%.

Also what we need to do is get involved in our politics, know who we are voting for and what their policies are and then hold them to it.

We, as a country, need to own our democracy.....collectively, take responsibility for where this country is going, in what direction we want it to go in.

Do you think Labour want their expenses out in the open?

None of them do, none of them.

Is there a Fee? — FOI

The above is the link from the FOI website. I agree the information needs to be disclosed, but also, the means of finding this info should be accessible to the average joe. The fee for a search is €20-95 per hour for compiling a search. It is no wonder that only the media and those with means can actually find out this info. If a clean-up is to start let it begin at the very office that sources this information.

i have a sneaking suspicion that, having reviewed his earlier silence and seeing the 'tarring' effect it had on everyone, that is why Eamon Gilmore decided to speak now. Yes i know he'll say it's because of new evidence but his position was untenable when the story broke in the summer!

I can't imagine any party want their full expenses released. However, it will be run watching them squirm and run for cover if they've misappropriated any public funds.

Then legislation must be introduced and passed, anything less would show the parties up for what they truly are.

Years ago when the Sunday Tribune revealed TDs expenses etc for the first time, Charlie McCreevy and the houses of the oireachtas announced plans to publish expenses regularly - this never happened. Despite the fact that the FOI battle has been won and that there is a principle that TDs and senators expenses etc can be published, the houses of the oireachtas still ask journalists to foi the information and they go through the whole 4 week official process when this should not be necessary. The information should be given out automatically to anyone who wants it for whatever reason because that is what the FOI act was supposed to do. It was supposed to determine what can be released and once that is determined people are not supposed to have apply again. Also for the last 3 years or so now the houses of the oireachtas are supposed to have being reforming the expenses system and most TDs will tell you they have no problem with. But hey nothing has happened. Remind me again who is the main man on the commission?
