UUP proposal for five-year delay to justice devolution criticised by SDLP

UUP proposal for five-year delay to justice devolution criticised by SDLP - The Irish Times - Wed, Aug 12, 2009

Wonder if Sinn Féin is really not upset by this development, or if they're letting SDLP complain because that seat is rightfully theirs, and/or maybe SF doesn't want to upset their power-sharing partners in the DUP?

Does anyone lend any credence to the financial concerns raised by the UUP? Is this a case of throw whatever objection you can at the wall to see what sticks? I'd be sort of surprised if the UK would allow policing to be devolved, but at the same time not allocate appropriate funding to do it properly.

These unionsts, DUP UUP - whatever name they use.
They dont seem to care about what is best for the people on the street.
All they can see is something that SF and the SDLP want, so they go to great lengths to stop it.

This sort of politics is way past its sell by date, their job goes beyond trying to annoy the 'fenians' but they just havent realised it yet and I doubt they ever will.

I wish they could leave this reactionist nonsence behind them, the PSNI obviously need these improvements policing needs to be devolved for it to be more effective - before the PSNI turn into a one sided untrustworthy force.
Unionists simply dont care about this, everythings a game to them.
If they block whatever SF wants they think theyre winning, put the people living here are the ones who pay the price - nationalist and unionist.
Abstinence makes the Church grow fondlers.

Sounds like the Tories are adding fuel to the UUPs attempted fire. Attention seeking?

It will be interesting to see what the SF reaction will be if this gets even more serious. I can see them finally playing hard ball if the Unionists continue to say Nay to everything. Maybe that's why SF are fairly calm about it, possibly waiting to show their teeth?
