    Greener future a building present

Change is coming to how houses are built in Northern Ireland and coming fast, in two months to be exact.

From the end of November before a new house can be built the builder must show in their plans how they will produce 40% less carbon dioxide than current builds.

The changes are being driven by European Union regulations, and will see building plans put through a computer programme to determine how they match the new standards. BBC News

These plans all sound very eco-friendly which isnt a bad thing, but its hard enough to buy a new house, im sure this will make them a lot more expensive.
Somehow i cant see every house that pops up with wind turbines and solar panels sticking out of them , there will be some loop hole in the regulation that builders will work around to get houses built cheaper and faster.

Its not a case of having to use solar panels or wind turbines, this is to do with the method of construction, materials used, insulation etc, taking advantage of new materials and construction methods to reduce carbon dioxide emmisions.

I was referring to the image posted on the article of how these houses might look. The image might look a bit drastic, but its 2006 and if you ask me this is how houses should have been looking years ago.
