Folks 'the Troubles' began in Derry on 5 October 1968.

    - anyone who was around at the time can confirm that.

The 1966 murders were just a foretaste of what the Loyalists got up to a few years later.

The IRA border murders were just a foretaste of what the Republicans got up to a few years later.

What is the importance of this? Well it completely overturns the British govt line, supported of course by the BBC and in turn RTE and commentators from deefer world, that the loyalist violennce was only ever retaliatory and if the IRA was to blame.

Does this signal a shift in policy and are we now to be treated to a re-education process by the British as a prelude to something else?

Not sure what the program was but they interviewed Dawn Purvis of the PUP and Billy Hutchinson of whatever he wants to call it this week. Perhaps someone can help by filing in the blank in my memory. (Too many summers and too many alcoholic beverages

    How tedious.

Isn't the truth that there are no "exogenous" variables in hisorty, as a History professor once told me. The idea that one can state that "them ones" started the problems up there is just fantasy. Its a much more deep rooted problem.

No Fatuous - you really have not got a clue, not a single clue do you have. You are just a automaton who reads and regurgitates the latest the PR team in Connolly House churns out and whatever is politically correct.

The Border Campaign was defeated and the IRA stood down, as they would only engage with the British Army and left the police and Specials alone they could not fight a war.

The UVF decided to attack the nationalists on the anniversary year of the 1916 rising in case they got any ideas, this was the slow burner before the massive conflagration.

    Absolutely pointless thread.

I couldn't agree more, there's elements of the playground, "you started it", "no, you started it".
