Best hope for Northern Ireland's future..

..is that there should be no deal between DUP and Sinn Féin and some sort of joint authority between the two governments should be formally established. Those two parties have between them such a collection of dishonest,unstable,juvenile,hate-mongers that I wouldn't put them in charge of the local tidy towns committee, let alone be in charge of Justice,Finance,Health, etc. The people up there don't know how lucky they are having those wasters outside the door, rather than inside.

I would have a much different attitude if it was the SDLP were calling the shots.

The North, a failed political entity which can't pay its own way, deserves to be governed by a DUP/SF coalition. They have been given every chance to behave normally and have been constanly overestimated by the British and Irish governments, the net result of which is that they did in their own moderates and made a mockery of the attention that has been wasted on them. I can think of no more fitting a fate for them than to be governed by biggots and terrorists- they brought it on themselves. It might be the wake-up call that they need, but there is little reason for optimism. I really hope that Ahern and Blair mean what they say about this being the last chance- they deserve no more attention and need to work things out for themselves. It's sink or swim time.
The political establishment lacks both vision and courage.

The people are ahead of the "leaders" on this one. They are getting on with their lives and don't need to have the DUP and Sinn Féin muppets foisted on them.

So would I, but it doesn't make your suggestion any less inane. Those were the people the people elected. Like it or lump it, that's democracy. I'd rather lump it and get on with Irish people representing Irish people in Ireland, even if it does happen to be Shinners and the DUP fundamentalists.
Anything is preferable to direct rule from the London overlords, who have been lumping on stealth taxes onto the population of the North, punishing us for their refusal to recognise our democratically elected government in the partitioned territory.

The democratic deficit in Northern Ireland is a huge barrier to normalisation. People in NI has NO say on education, health, housing....
If there is proper devolved government, they may find that they have their childrens future in common. More important than flags, in my opinion.

    How Intellectual

So you really think we want joint authority over the North?. In no way do we want anything to do with the scum that live there. We got rid of them in 1922 and they aint getting back.

The people there had an SDLP/UUP government. They chose to wreck it by voting for extremists, misfits and the generally insane. They made their bed, let the scum lie in it. Bertie should have the courage of his convictions and tell all the northern scum to go to hell.

Is there a Mod prepared to address the racist insult to all Northern Irish people in the above post?
