    Ryan Confidential Last Night

Did anyone see Ryan confidential with Nell McCafferty last night? Gerry got highly indignant when she suggested that people in the 6 counties were oppressed. He also said "but you are different from us", in a pathetic attempt to give an argument against a UI!

I felt sorry for Nell. What posessed her to allow that idiot to pry into her personal life to such a degree? It was very embarrassing.

That's a standard partitionist mantra, which is only what one should expect from Ryan. It's used by him and his ilk to try and ease their post-colonial self-hatred, as if it's Northern nationalists own fault that they have had to endure what they have had to since their abandonment by the Southern Establishment.

It is this sort of tone that is is turning "partitionist" into a badge of pride, and not just for the usual types either.

I have no idea how partition could be a badge of pride for anyone, except Unionists and West Brits.

I didn't see the programme, (I wouldn't watch Nell McCaferty for that long anyway did you see her on Q&A recently?) but I wouldn't put Gerry Ryan in the category Johnny painted and I find it extreme to put him in it.

There are plenty of unspoken partitionists who are quite happy with things the way they are, and will quietly admit to being so, and vote accordingly.

I'm only going on what DOD said as I didn't see the programme myself, but how else would you explain such a farcical statement as "but you are different from us" as an argument against a united Ireland?

She didn't say people in six counties were oppressed. She said she was sick of being treated as second class citizens. He asked her for an example. She quoted him Bloody Sunday. He asked for something a bit more recent, she gave the example of water charges!

I could be wrong here, but aren't water charges levied on everybody regardless of religion?

Whatever Nell had she lost it a long time ago. (She pretty much said so herself last night).

She is no longer of any relevance. She should be afforded the dignity of a quiet retirement.

Was he actually talking about a united Ireland though, or what he just commenting that the 6 counties are different from the Dublin establishment in the South.

I think Gerry's a nice guy, and I would have time for him as opposed to a lot of the d*cks in RTE. He talks a lot so you have to forgive him every now and again.

By the way, she agreed that people are different across the border. Is she also guilty of espousing "a standard partitionist mantra".
