Special Branch men snub Omagh inquiry.

Two policemen refused to give evidence to a high-level probe into Omagh bomb intelligence in Northern Ireland, it has been revealed.

UTV News - Two policemen failed to give evidence in Omagh inquiry

A member from the Royal Ulster Constabulary Special Branch was among those who failed to co-operate with the inquiry, Sir Peter Gibson added.

His investigation rejected claims information about the attack, which killed 29 people, was held back.

A Westminster committee of MPs is hearing evidence on his review, established after BBC Panorama claimed the government's communications intercept centre was listening to mobile telephones used to co-ordinate the 1998 Real IRA explosion.

Sir Peter said one of the officers who snubbed him was on the investigating team. "The other was Special Branch, he didn`t lead a team," he said.

He added: "It would have been nice confirmation for me if what I had heard was the truth, obviously one wants as much confirmation as possible."

In his report Sir Peter said details from telephone intercepts from the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) were passed on promptly and fully in accordance with proper procedures.

Michael Gallagher, whose son Aiden died in the blast, said: "It is unfortunate these people that have spent a lifetime in law enforcement have decided not to co-operate.

"Why would they not want to continue to support law and order and to shed light on the matter?"

It's ironic that if you are arrested in the north and don't respond to questions it is taken as an admission of guilt. Not so the case where official state whitewashes are concerned.

prsumably for the same reason the Dublin Monaghan families have continually run into a wall of non co-operation from garda , RUC, British army and Irish and British governemnts for the past 30 odd years . And still do .

youll find youll see the same refusal to co-operate when both governemnts are asked for a cross border independent public enquiry . Or when garda files are asked for . Or when anyone starts asking the garda about Paddy Dixon . And a host of other matters . Including their failure and refusal to arrest and question a certain individual from Dundalk whom RUC cheif Ronnie Flanagan was eventually forced to resign over .

Funny that, how Britian gives imunity for witnesses to appear in the Smithwick inquiry because of the murders of the RUC men,

But if its anyting the Brits are suspected of its a closed shop.

The RUC pulled the shutters down on helping the Gardai on any attacks suspected by the brits/loyalists, in the South, and the Irish government did feck all about it, when is the Irish Government going to grow a pair?

It is a blatant double standard.

A journalist has said she has been threatened with legal action if she does not reveal Real IRA information sources.

youll find the Irish governemnt have gone much further whether in the past or in recent years to actively thwart any investigations into the Dublin and Monaghan bombings . Were the truth to come out theyd stand to lose a lot more than the brits . The fact is the garda knew precisely who was carrying these mass murder attacks out - their identities and photographs - and let them run around the south of Ireland for years unmolested .
Its a fact these people were under the direct control of British army intelligence basd in portadown and so were garda special branch being directed by the same unit . Shortly after the bombings Garda special branch detective John McCoy visited the home of Irish army explosives expert Commandant Paddy Trears unannounced in the company of a prime suspect in the bombing - Major Peter Maynard - and attempted to recruit Trears as an agent . Trears reported this but nothing was done . McCoy has blackmailed governemnts through the national press into leaving him alone . All the files and all duplicates have disappeared from the south in the last couple of years . Another suspect has been living in Dublin and working as a garda agent for over 15 years while the gardai claimed they werent aware of his whereabouts .
The same people run the show north and south , simple as that .

Then that would mean while the North is still a Brit colony, the South is a crypto-Brit colony. So much for stepping stones.
