There was never any question of him being out-polled by the Provisionals. His potential standing was simply to heighten awareness of 28-day detention/internment.

Smart move by Colly, leaving the way clear for dissatisfaction with SF to be channeled into pure violence.

The meeting had to be held outside the venue that was booked (the community centre owned by the council) as other so-called democrats blocked the group from using the centre.
So he huffed and he puffed and got blown down. Bit like the time he went on hunger-strike(s).

The meeting was not allowed to go ahead in the Kilwilkie community centre because there are long-standing rules that it cannot be used for political purposes. The previous meeting was allowed to be held there as it was discuss prospective actions in protest at Duffys arrest. Tonight's meeting was clearly billed as one to discuss putting him on the ballot for the election i.e. political purposes. No other political party or candidate gets to use the community centre, so there is no reason to make an exception in this case. Indeed SF regularly use the Ashburn Hotel for similar meetings and if the Duffy supporters were anyway half organised they would have considered this.
He has not stood citing lack of money and time to get logistics organised. Pity really as it wopuld have allowed us to see what actual support their is out there for the so called dissidents which I believe to be higher than the chattering class believes
