Orde on dissidents: "a few desperate men and women"

[Hugh Orde] in delivering the David Ervine memorial lecture in Belfast, said the actions of a “few desperate men and women” would only prove once again that violence doesn’t work and that the will of the people of Northern Ireland would prevail.

The challenge, he said, was to “prevent, for example, that poisonous little group of killers in Lurgan from tricking more young people into the downward spiral of serious crime, oblivion and incarceration”.

..[He continued to say] there was no reason why the devolution of policing and justice can’t happen. “We are ready for it and I think that when local people take responsibility for local policing, the endgame of Patten has been achieved and policing with the community will go from strength to strength,”.. “It seems to me that the determination by those in positions of authority, both elected and unelected, to ensure that we move forward not backwards is clear and unswerving,”
Dissidents must not be let fool young people, warns Orde - The Irish Times - Wed, May 06, 2009

Previously he had put the number at 300.

If he thinks that they are so few why is he so keen to get out of the six counties?

If he has such a good handle on their numbers, then why are they harrassing Suzanne Breen trying to get information from her?

one wonders why Mr Orde , McGuinness and co havent shut the feck up about these few desperate men and women for months now and are treating us to daily press conferences pointing out how few and how desperate they are . If I remember correctly it was around this time last year he was pronouncing the near imminence of their extinction .

Who are the group of killers from Lurgan? Would comments like that not have implications for a fair trial for Colin Duffy who's from Lurgan?

"few desperate men and women" orde.

I assume that the Englishman is referring to the psni who are so desperate for information that they are threatening journalists to try and make them reveal their sources.

Desperate they are. In fact, now that Colin Duffy has just withdrawn his Euro candidacy they are in a hole.
