    like the 1922 treaty ?

you only had a say in the talks if you abided by the mitchell principles first in order to be let into them . Which then determined pretty much what you could then say in the talks . You couldnt say British rule was illegal or illegimate , you could not say the British governemnt had no right to be in Ireland . You could not say the British forces had no right to be in Ireland . You could not challenge the basis of Britishr rule in Ireland

so that body of people , Irish people who thought Britian had no right to be in Ireland , didnt have any say at all . Senator George Mitchell and the British governemnt determined that and what could actually be said beforehand at the talks. Rendering the talks farcical . Hence your numerous farcical posts describing them as an exercise in inclusive democracy .

Marty and Gerry have stuck their 2 fingers up at their traditional republican support base, and are looking for the votes of those who would traditionally vote SDLP.

In fact this stuff about the Mitchell Principles is a red herring because it did not constrain the position of the participants at all-the Mitchell Principles were about commitment to peaceful methods not about any parameters that would be in the G.F.A; and we all know that peaceful methods are supported politically by the people. As Dr Mo Molam, a person who is now no longwer with us but who made an enormous contribution to change, stated, everything was on the table. Sinn Féin was there along with representatives representing every shade of oppinion. Sinn Féin called for all-party talks in 1995, and got them and these took place between 1997-1998, and in the course of these talks the G.F.A took shape. Sinn Féin and other parties such as the SDLP and the Irish Government also participated, as did the unionists, and the outcome was supported after a referendum in which the GFA got detailed scrutiny. From that point on, Ireland was in a very different context.

That's it in a nutshell Mutley. S.F. is now a bone fide nationalist party with all that that entails.
