Whats the story here, there has been very very little menion of this on the news apart from the day it was first reported, is it just because the Police have absolutely no idea who done it or why?

It is because the investigation is continuing. In general reports on this will only appear when someone is arrested.
"The thing that always annoyed me about traditional Irish historiography was the paradox of its Anglocentrism. People are now prepared, I think, to confront the possibility that many Irish problems are, in a sense, indigenous to the Irish situation." Roy Foster (1989).

“The entire family is distraught. The only thing we can think of is it was a case of mistaken identity,” she [family member] said..

One theory they are investigating is that the 60-year-old financial adviser may have been gunned down in a botched robbery. Detectives are probing the possibility that a criminal gang had been planning to rob Mr Kerr, who was a member of a gun club, in a bid to get his legally-held firearms.
A security source said the murder was organised and had “the hallmarks of a professional hit”. It is understood the killers asked for Mr Kerr by name when his wife answered the door.

psni are quiet because there is work involved here, not the usual jumping to half baked conclusions they specialize in. Im sure if Colly wasnt locked up he would be their prime suspect in the media.

His age and career choice, his financial affairs, his move towards the political power exercised by the uup. If you were plod would you want to barge in asking awkward (although obvious) questions or would you tread lightly least you unearth something the political establishment prefers remain hidden? This man had a long career and only recently decided to publicly move into political sphere- skeletons to hide perhaps? A problem that needed political juice? In the economic climate is it not likely that some of the advice he had previously given ended in tears for someone with the clout to order in an assassination?

Given the haste with which sdlp backed away from the boilerplate condemnations on the night and the subsequent unionist boilerplate the next day, we can assume he was not a "taig". The mistaken identity idea is a familys grief. This was no mistake. They are probably far from the north now.

Something people never seem to realize is that even if political violence were to end "up there" (which it never will), assassinations to order take place all over Ireland and britain anyways, so someone getting shot over something will always be happening.

The latest word is that the incident began as a robbery but no word as yet on whether the objective was money or guns, Mr Kerr having been a member of a gun club.
