Not for the time being. But if Sinn Fein wants to hold on to a lot of its support in West Belfast, Tyrone, Derry etc. it would need to rethink its approach to several issues.

Btw, Gerry would probably be seen as one of the more serious Catholics in Sinn Feins upper echelons. Many of the others are totally hostile to the Church.

He railed bitterly against previous IRA ceasefires and held them up as evidence of future betrayal and compromise , which then permitted him to move into leadership as a hardliner .
Once in leadership he utilised militarist authoritiarianism to quell any dissent with in the movement quite ruthlessly . He always made sure to have an IRA leadership statement handy in advance so he could then accuse any criticising him of criticising the army itself , therefore insinuate treason . This intensified post ceasfire . He did not keep a movement on board a ceasefire by persuasion when the truth was he was promoting a strategy based upon the Hume adams agreement - which republicans themselves remain forbidden from reading while all his supposed opponents were permitted to study the document in depth . He did it through fear of asking questions and fear of criticism , real fear for your own personal safety .

As regards sectarianism id remind you his parting shot to the leadership he ousted in the early 80s was to throw out their eire nua proposls as well . Which he did by playing a very sectarian card indeed . By calling them a sop to unionism .

you seem to have been sucked in by the mans pr machine . Many were before you including yours truly so thats not meant as an insult . Im simply pointing out th man is barefaced liar and a control freak who cannot tolerate dissent . He takes it extremely personally .
The electorate in West Belfast and through out the North do not agree with you,in fact his support base is growing at every election.

So much for non denominational Irish republicanism ?????. GA declares his respect for certain tenets of the protestant faith and some think the SF vote in the heartlands is under threat.
Northern republicanism is beginning to show their true colours at last. Class.

When people ask you what religion you are they don't want to know if you believe in transubstaniation or the Virgin Mary, they want to know if you are a nationlist or a unionist.
In essence I'm now a Christian, some of my own religious views are similar to Gerry's, I don't think we need a middle man to talk to God, or receive forgivness.
but if anyone asks me what I am I'd always say I'm a catholic, so they know I don't think I'm British
    LOL

Gerry might or might not believe in transubstantiation or not, but it is fair to say that Catholic and Protestant ideologies aren't being followed when he protects IRA scum.

He could have, but didn't. Instead he advised us to turn the other cheek and to do good to those who hate us. Not a philosophy you subscribe to?
