How far would you go for a united ireland ?

    Ireland rejoining the commonwealth ?

    9 county ulster being semi-automonous ?

Maybe something else of course its purly hypothetical but it would be interesting to see just how far people would go to accommodate almost 1 million protestants into an equal ireland just like the constitution promised

Does equality mean special rights? Puzzled.

I have unionist friends and they told me they would consider a UI if the following was offered.

    1) They kept their British passports.
    2) Ireland joined the commonwealth
    3) Special provisions were put in the irish constitution
    4) PR was kept in place.
    5) Stormont was kept in place for a while.

What is the point of that? Its nonsense.

I would change the anthem to English, remove bits in the constitution about the RCC, change St.Patricks day, but I would not join the common wealth.

All is fine with me accept the common wealth.

What special provisions do they want?

    1) No problem
    2) Why?
    3) What are they?
    4) Will be. FF tried to abolish once before and failed abysmally
    5) What would be the point?

As I've said before, joint sovereignty might just about keep everybody happy.

P.S. I suspect your friends are middle-class moderate Unionists who don't do much drinking in Loyalist clubs.

There you go i think most sound minded irish people would have no problem accepting those arrangements

Not in a concessionary way but in a way that shows we have moved on and that all traditions on this island are respecated

I just think the commonwealth provides a link to the Queen which would make them feel abit better.

Special provisions which respect the unionist tradition and gaurentees their rights.

Again i think Stormont is just a re assurance for them.
