Presumably, his candidacy has a lot to do with the possibility of his being convicted and not being able to represent anyone, unless of course he planned to run anyway, and his campaign was inadvertently sidetracked by being charged with the murder of 2 British Soldiers.

Lets face it, electing people who won't or can't take their seats in the legislature to which they have been elected is something of a lost art in the Norn Iron.

There's a real chance that Duffy could get a reasonable vote, even if he doesn't take the seat. When he does, where does that leave the "microgroup" label? There is substantial support for a republican alternative to the provos, and this will make people face that reality.
