Is there still a Protection racket in Northern Ireland

    Just interested to know.

I've heard building sites employ some locals to look after the sites out of hours. Good business sense to be honest.

Are bars, restaurants etcs paying protection money as they did in 80's and early 90's?

Most of the bars, taxi associations, private security firms and what have ye are now owned by people linked to Pro State elements in the Provos. If you are opposed to the GFA you have absolutely no chance of gaining employment in any these. Areas like West Belfast are corrupt to the core, and wouldn't be too different from Gaza under the Fatah movement, with outside financial aid and investment being siphoned off by those loyal to Stormont and their family members.
They're doing quite well in this peace melarkey. Thats why they were furious last week.
