Armed guards stood by as Brit soldiers shot at Northern Ireland base

ARMED SECURITY guards employed to protect the military base in Northern Ireland where two soldiers were shot dead did not open fire on the terrorists, even when they stood over the injured men and fired further shots.
Guards stood by as Brit soldiers shot

A police forensic team searches the front entrance of Massereen Army base near Belfast. Guards stood by

Two soldiers and two deliverymen were also injured in the attack, for which the dissident republican group the Real IRA claimed responsibility.

I can't understand why no shots were returned. Can anyone shed some light on this for me ?

I think they are like door pass checkers with pistols not like bodygurards. All troops are needed for active duties with two wars on and a build up coming in Afghanistan.

The Brigadier in charge has already stated that they would have been foolish to have returned fire for risk of rounds hitting innocent civilians passing by in cars etc.

I'd like to know how the attackers knew to follow a pizza delivery to the base, how did they know it was going there?
I would have thought the order would have been phoned through to a landline connection.

It would seem the soldiers inside were having a bit of a going away bash so they were off their guard, its well over a decade since the troubles so people wernt as careful as in the bad old days.
Also the attackers were using automatic weapons, anyone with any sence would have kept their head down.

A soldier from the troubles described the attack as professional, they fired from distance and then moved in for the kill towards the army base to make sure their victims were dead.
This would mean that they must have been right infront of a British army barracks, yet managed to escape without being hurt, maybe they had other dissident attackers covering them from behind incase anyone tried to return fire?

They didnt even burn their car out when they abandoned it which would suggest that they are confident that they could use the vehicle, carry out the attack and abandon the vehicle afterwards without leaving any evidence on it.

Another point about the attack would be the fact that although the RIRA are getting the attention, the other group that claimed responsibilty ONH are also quite likely to have carried it out.
The week before the attack they gave an interview to the Irish News stating that they will be targetting the British army.

The next attack on the police officer in Craigavon seemed completely different.
Young hoods were used to create a disturbance and then someone fired only 2 shots from the crest of a hill at a policeman and fled the scene.
I dont think the two incidents are connected, but one thing i do know is that the scumbag traitors who carry out these attacks arnt the ones who have to deal with the repercussions.

Everyone around here is waiting for the inevitable loyalist attack, loyalists are the only ones who will be pleased about all this, as they will actually get to kill someone and have an excuse other than turf wars or drug dealing.

These 'IRA' men are the largest threat to our freedom, if they wanted a united Ireland they got it.
An Ireland united in disgust against them.

Its possible they were armed with but I believe they would only have pistols and there would be little point returning fire with a pistol when the attacker had greater fire power of semi automatic rifles.

Well i think they've been watching the Base for a while !!

As for the guards the thing that upset me was ok they couldn't have shot as the murders were so close - but as they drove away why not open up then and empty every round they had ?

    That doesn't add up.

We are told that one of the gunmen walked up and pumped bullets into one of the Brits as he was lying there - surely an ideal opportunity to shoot the gunman, no?

Would you take on 2 gunmen armed with automatic assault rifles armed only with a 9mm pistol? You would be fecking mental if you did!
