    Ice Cold is Alex

    But which one?

Maskey is ice cool, Atwood just gets iced.

Please set aside your prejudices and antipathy towards either SF or the SDLP and enjoy this debate on the devolution of Policing and Justice from the BBC's Hearts and Minds programme. (It's the first item)

Regardless of your opinion on the subject matter, this is hilarious. Old 'Leadbelly' menacingly torments the frightened Woody in his quest for a straight answer whilst Noel Thompson attempts to restrain his laughter. (Unsuccessfully)

BBC iPlayer - Hearts and Minds: 05/03/2009

Alex V Alex, who would win a fight?

Word of caution, don't make the mistake of actually getting caught up in the debate, that will just fry your bonce.

Oh dear, you would have thought that the SDLP would have known not to send their very own Stalingrad veteran Attwood into a set piece debate. Thompson should have stopped the debate half way through as it was clear that we were witnessing a politician in complete meltdown.
You could see that Thompson, who himself adopts and argumentative and interventionsit form of interviewing, appreciated Maskey slicing and dicing the hapless Attwood.

Didn't realise that was the case with iplayer fionn, hopefully someone will youtubeify it soon. It's 'worth waiting for'. (Carlsberg ad? Ice cold in Alex? Anyone? Anyone?)

Thompson was scared to throw the towel in just in case it accidentally hit Atwood and snapped his spine.

Nothing out of the ordinary for Hearts and Minds IMHO. Maskey isn't really the Justice spokesman (that is Gerry Kelly). Attwood obviously feels that he has been personally wronged as the SDLP had hoped to push him forward for the Justice post if the d'Hondt was triggered (and both the DUP and SF passed on it). Now it seems that a deal has been struck involving the APNI. He is right to say that it undermines the principles of the GFA, but with the DUP a rather skewed deal had to be done anyway. Not sure if SF struck the right one (time will tell) and Maskey was defending it in a rather hapless manner.

Also, Maskey will probably get the West Belfast seat when Adams stands down so the two will be going head to head there.
"The thing that always annoyed me about traditional Irish historiography was the paradox of its Anglocentrism. People are now prepared, I think, to confront the possibility that many Irish problems are, in a sense, indigenous to the Irish situation." Roy Foster (1989).

Seen it last night, Maskey made a complete fool out of himself.
I dont really like him anyway, he sounds like some ignorant Belfast yobo.
If you cant debate or get facts across without being rude and agressive , you shouldnt be on such a programme.

Worst political performance ive seen in a long time.

Alec Maskey is an excellent politician and was -in fact- a former Sinn Féin Director of Unionist Engagement which he did very well.

The SDLP politician failed to explain how the SDLP would do better.

    Game, set, match Sinn Féin.
