human beings and oppressors are exclusive groups; one cannot truly be human while oppressing another.

settlers who renounce the colonist mentality and work to change their environment are courageous and make a small (and often thankless) but vital role in any liberation struggle.

We're getting off-track here people, it's about Sammy Wilson's rhetorric. Not all so-called 'planter' stock is in agreement with DUP hate-speech.
I have a little 'planter' blood and many people from 'planter' backgrounds; such as Wolfe Tone, Robert Emmet, Countess Markievicz, Ivan Cooper and Ronnie Bunting made positive contributions to the struggle for sovereignty and equality for the Irish people.
Unfortunately such people are the exception rather than the rule.
Nonetheless, there are progressively-minded people within the 'planter' community and it is as xenophobic as any DUP statement to tar all with the one brush.

You employ the most able that should be the only consideration.

Given the way many 'Catholics' behaved over the years, it's hardly surprising. Perhaps they might have blown H&W up? And, of course, any women and children who happened to be around.

    where did i generalise?

edit: perhaps the confusion is with my use of the word 'planter'

im just using it as synonymous with colonist, a phenomenon seen in every area of european imperialism and certainly not exclusie to ireland.

    sorry for the derail

if you want a reason to support liberation struggle, just listen to the whinging of a unionist about the taigs, an american about the blacks, an israeli about the palestinans (etc etc etc) and know that the only way to shut them up is to transform them from oppressors into human beings.
I recommend a strong anti-psychotic for you my friend.
