Who's sick of the same old, same old?

Back after a refreshing break for Christmas and I notice that there hasn't been a single interesting thread put up over the Christmas period. Just the same old mud been flung in the same old faces.

How much do you hate whataboutry, backwardness and the inability of others to get over it? Should we be constantly bringing up the same tired old debates and justifications of the past or should we be trying to find a way to reinvigorate healthy debate to help us all understand each other a little better across the divide?

I have some sympathy with that slap harry. One of the big problems on this forum is the obsession some have with a United Ireland and with Unionist/Brit bashing. These three issues will obviously bring a strong response from those committed to the unity of The United Kingdom. One solution would be to ban these three issues as topics for discussion and we could then get down to discussing bread and butter issues within British Ulster, which is what this forum should be about.

But at least you can't beat the comic value of some posts and their bare bigotry - a great site (sight) indeed. Is there a BUPolitics.co.uk site yet ? - May be your opportunity.

    Oh dear...

    Dear oh dear oh dear...

Read the opening post again, paying particular attention to the word "whataboutery".

Thank you for the demonstration of what I'm getting at.

I certainly agree with what you say about Brit-bashing. Having indulged in it long enough, I know that whilst it can satisfy the primal urges of my ancestors buried deep within my DNA, it's just not very constructive or relevant anymore. The English, Welsh and Scottish in modern times have shown that they are a very secular and friendly people, and I've since put all animosity towards them behind me. We are all Europeans after all.

As regards the rest of your solution, you could always go to a forum which doesn't have .ie in it's address (a big hint as to the possible content of a forum) and try one maybe with .co.uk in it. That will solve your dilemma, while I struggle on with mine.

    What is your suggestion?

The Palestinian issue and the economic downturn/public finances are the big issues of the moment. Hence they are dominating the site. There is always a market (that is diminishing) for the bash-the-Brits/anti-IRA stuff, and then there is general chatter. That's always the way

I see what your getting at Slap Harry. On the other hand, this sub-forum (pretty much the only section on this forum I comment on), is headed Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland is part of The UK, so it makes sense that people from The UK will post comments on it. I'm sure you'll agree.

Incidentally, I was making a suggestion to solve your dilemma - I don't have one and look forward to making many more posts in the months to come.

I welcome opinions from all corners of the earth, once they are intelligent and honest.
