Another sign of the changing times

Fermanagh has moved from one of the worst performing police areas to one of the best in terms of crime reduction and clearance. The Sinn Féin chairman of Fermanagh District Policing Partnership has commended police officers for a job well done over recent months.

Councillor Domhnall Ó'Cobhthaigh made the comments in response to the six month report into crime in the district.

The report was presented to the DPP by Chief Inspector Alywin Barton, who explained the figures. He said there has been a reduction in violent crime, down 12%, for April to October 2008 compared to the figures for April 2007 - October 2009. Domestic burglaries have also dropped by 12.3%, while there have also been a decrease of 33 in the number of thefts recorded.

Well done the PSNI and SF - working together is working !!

You must give me the name of those "happy tablets" that you have recently been taking. The magic mushroom season ended a few months ago so i know it is probably prescription stuff.......... (Maybe the psni and the shinnermen have eradicated magic mushrooms in the OSC or at least cut it down by 10%). Anyway if it's legal stuff I could also get my doctor to prescribe for me and as a good law abiding citizen of this wee province I will of course pay for it at the chemist.

This is a vindication of SF policing strategy. However although progress has been made there is more to be made and Sinn Féin will continue to hold policing to account at all levels. Sinn Féin argues for the devolution of policing to Belfast so it can be more accountable.

Nice try Factual - as one who has attended a DPP its not only SF holding the police to account - the public are doing a good job at it too.

You have no right to engage in treason.

No. I love good news. I am just sceptical of statistics that are used by govt agencies. I know how they manipulate waiting list statistics in the health service. Using the same methods a few wee break-ins could get lost in a bottom drawer or a few fights in Main Street Enniskillen could go into the post october period and outside the april -oct one. Or indeed as in the cases above percentages quoted were appropriate and exact numbers when the percentage decline is not dramatic enough.
Oh I just remember that fight involving two gangs on halloween night cannot be included cus although it started at 10pm the psni did not arrive on the scene to 1230am ( Nov 1st) Another statiscal period altogether that will be included in the Nov -march period. Or will it.

Would he be a legitimate target in the eyes' of the Continuity IRA?

So they stole more of my land, burnt my olive trees, destroyed my house, took my water, bombed my country..."
