Inquiry told Nelson 'helped IRA'

Would it be possible to ascertain people's views on this story without the usual rants from either side?

The inquiry into the murder of Lurgan solicitor Rosemary Nelson has heard allegations she passed confidential case information to IRA members.
A police officer also said Special Branch had information Mrs Nelson had been having an affair with Colin Duffy, described as a prominent IRA member. Barra McGrory, solicitor for the Nelson family, said there was "no evidential basis for this belief".

Fuull story here.

Usual rants like pointing out that the Brits are simply blackening the name of someone they colluded in murdering?

It smells of a smear. The idea that a lead Nationalist lawyer, who was a loyalist hate figure and a top volunteer, also not popular with loyalists were conducting an affair, and choosing a loyalist area to meet up. What bollix.

In a word No.

Is this the laying of the ground for a "but sure she was a mad Ra women anyway" type of justification. The evidential equivalent of sticking pipe bombs in a man's pocket after Bloody Sunday.

This story certainly colours her murder with an attempt at justification.

Does the fact that she may have been having an affair with an IRA man make her murder any less henious? What do you think Aindriu? The Brits have a long history of using any tactic to destroy their enemies. Black propaganda is an ancient form of excusing anything. Sure weren't the Celtic people of Europe barbarians and therefore deserving of destruction and slavery. The history of this type of propaganda is as old as humanity itself.

I think this says more about YOU, than other people on this board.

Quick re-cap - Northern Bank robbery + No evidence = Aquittal.

Now this time - Rosemary Nelson Allegation + No evidence = ???

Its merely an assertion, from an anonymous individual police officer, with no substantiation. Additionally, under the terms of the enquiry, he cannot be cross examined by counsel for Ms. Nelson.

In my view, and even given than I am a confirmed shinner basher, it has no evidentiary basis or value whatsoever.

Additionally, as someone already mentioned, does this allegation, even if true, make her death any more palatable?

I don't think so.

Killing those who assist the other side was always part of the game, whether they be lawyers to IRA members or catering staff to the British Army.

It is to be expected that we hear lies about Rosemary Nelson. Loyalism wouldn't be loyalism without it.

And let's not forget that Jean McConville's daughter is still waiting for an apology for the rumours - never proved - that were spread at the time of that woman's abduction, death and desecration of her body. In fact, the IRA was retelling that version of events as recently as 2006, without much attempt to provide proof. IRA told: end lies about 'disappeared' mother | UK news | The Observer
Really shameful stuff.

I only move from Nelson to McConville because on this site, there's always the danger of IRA supporters getting giddy at condemning loyalist/British misbehaviour without first looking in the mirror. Rosemary Nelson's family deserve justice.

The word of an RUC special branch man fighting a war against Rosemary Nelson because she was quite a good solicitor for the IRA is not worth taking seriously, but of course in the courts the word of a policeman is gospel.

But again, there you have it. Even though your protestations in regards to people alleging about Rosemary Nelsons connections or lack of........ you equate it with 'the disappered and the IRA' thus rendering your point contradictary.

This is exactly what Black propaganda does. Well done.

PS I dont support what they did to 'the disappeared' either.
