Another sign times are changing across ireland

first Irish President to visit an Orange Hall.

Brakey Orange Hall near Baillieborough re-opened two years ago after it was destroyed in an arson attack.

County Grand Master Henry Latimer said he was delighted by Mrs McAleese's visit.

"It's very significant in that it's probably the first time ever the head of state has come to an Orange hall," he said.

Great to see the President taking an interest - she was given a warm welcome !!

Times will really have changed when the Orange Order allows members of the Catholic Church to join.

Thats just plain stupid, The Orange Order is a Religious based organisation...A Protestant one, It's core principles and teachings are entrenched in the Protestant Faith, Thats like saying The Aincient Order Of Hibernians or Opus Dei should start admitting Protestants. The OO do not admit any other Faith (Catholic, Muslim,Jew, Hindi or any other) other than Protestant as it believes in the teachings of the reformed faith.

Times are changing I agree, even when Bertie Ahern went to see the Orange Order and took photos with them one of the Orangemen greeted Bertie in Irish and Bertie greeted him back, we would of never thought that would of happened!

An Orangeman speaking Irish to the Irish taoiseach !

Of course she was given a warm welcome. Bailliborough is in Cavan, so they'd be giving their president a very warm welcome.

I don't know much about the Orange Order but I can more or less garentee you that if he was a catholic, he wouldnt be a member.

I'm all for north-south cooperation and the strengthening of links between both jurisdictions.

I saw this on the RTE News. Why does every bloody news item about the north on RTE have to start with "Only a few short years ago these events would have been inconceivable" or some such? Yeah, we know, it's great, but I'm sick of hearing about historic this and unpredecented that. There's only so much praise you can give people for deciding not to hate each other anymore.
