Time for Northern Ireland to change name

Now living and working in a part of the united kingdom that is very much british, east of the Bann (where the majority of the population live), im starting to think why dont Northern Ireland have a poll to change its name?

After all, Northern Ireland is definately not Ireland. Its definately British. Its citizens in the majority feel they are british, both Prodestant and Catholic. I know so many Catholics that would never join the south.

Besides i cant understand why people down south keep wishing about a UI. Northern Irelands constitutional position is not, has been or will be up for dicussion.

People need to get real, NI is in the UK, fact. nothing is going to change that. the vaste majority of people want it to remain that way.
So, why doesnt Northern Ireland change its name, so to distinguish itself from the republic completely? thats how i see were a lot of the trouble is for unionists, they need to get a way of seperating its association, all though very small, with the republic.

how about, West England, West Britain, Ulster, New Britain??

Im origionally from the republic, and like alot of you arm chair wishful thinking, hypocrit republicans, i was republican, or i thought i was. then i went to live here, and now i have acepted that Northern Ireland is very much the UK and will remain so. Long may it continue.

Sure ye can be irish if you want to be up here. nothing is stopping anyone, anymore. So republicans wake up and accept it.

    Northern Ireland

The people in the south are not obsessed with the accession of Northern Ireland or the provience as Paisley liked to call it. The people in the south
have a long way since 1916, money is now the politics of the day, not
romanticism. And for its name, the unionists don't care from as long as it stays under British control.

Roughly half of N.I. is west of the Bann, and there it is a completely different story. So unless you want to hive-off Antrim and the top half of county Down, you should forget about your bright idea.

Might be time to think it out again.

I don't think anybody wants to change its name. Would Wales want to be known as 'the bit down in the southeast' or Scotland 'wayy up north'.

    Trolling indeed.

Doesn't Dublin already have first call on West Britain?

Norn Iron has many problems, but the name shouldn't be one of them. Before 1921 Westminister and the Crown referred to the all 32 counties as Ireland. So too would most unionists.

The six counties are a failure politically and economically, dependent as they are on handouts from London (and now) Dublin. Partition was daft then and it still is.

Apart from you not being able to spell, I'd say more finitely British, but perhaps Europe in the future.

If Northern Ireland was a failure politically there would be a united Ireland. The fact it proved resilient to a concerted Republican assault is evidence of its success.

As for us relying on money from Dublin don't be daft. Anything it supplies is a drop in the ocean compared to the annual British subvention of £6 billion. Considering NI for most of the "troubles" had a higher GDP per capita than the RoI one can only imagine how much wealthier we would be today if it weren't for Republicans. In spite of their claims to represent the poor in West Belfast etc, SF/IRA are more responsible than anyone for their squalor.
