Police find huge paramilitary gun cache in Belfast

More than 70 loyalist paramilitary weapons and thousands of bullets have been found by police in north Belfast, it was revealed today.

The huge arms cache, linked to the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF), was uncovered as officers searched the house of a man who is believed to have taken his own life.

In May last year, the UVF effectively declared an end to its campaign of violence by announcing the organisation was adopting a non-military and civilian role.

Amazing, the Loyalists have to kill themselves before the cops will take their guns. It's hardly like they didn't know the gear was there.

At least that is 70 of the hundreds they have off the streets. Now all they have to do is recover the rest.

They know where they are, probably down to the last few hundred rounds, what's to stop them?

With so many guns in the house, I would be willing to bet he hung himself.

Police already stated they know where loyalist arms dumps are, they dont know about the few dissident guns there might be floating around.

Either way there could be another Billy Wright out there who has the arms do go on a killing spree unfortunately the police wont do anything until someone or a few more people are killed.

The psni are an embarassment when it comes to loyalist guns admitting that they know where they are but being unwilling to take these illegal guns from loyalist paramilitaries.
Perhaps unionist parties realise that if policing and justice powers were devolved they would be expected to make progress on this scandalous issue.

Which is what? The bulk of Republican weaponry is out of the PSNI/RUC jurisdiction so they are in no position to get it. The British government has already stated that they know where the bulk of Loyalist weapons are, which one would expect considering the Brits supplied the bulk of them and directed most of their use. No such statement has been forthcoming in regard to Republican weapons.

Predictably the PUP/UVF have denied the guns are theirs, although they dont deny they are still fully armed.

UVF Murderer Billy Hutchinson of the PUP, who has represented the UVF at meetings with the international decommissioning body, said he was "confident the guns would not be traced to the UVF".

    Maybe this man was collector?
