It's about time Parents took responsibility of their teenage kids who are causing most of the grief. If you bring your kids up without any morals and a lack of respect for others this is what you get. As for the CJS, It needs to be a lot tougher on serial hoodlums, instead of sending them to cushy 'rooms' in Hydebank they need to punish these thugs properly ie proper hard labour and not gardening and absolutey no TV, Video Games or privillages etc, they need to be shown that jail is the last place they want to be instead of bribing them with gratuities to be 'good boys' this clearly does not work. We also need effective Policing on our streets, more Bobbies on the beat and a massive crackdown on Underage Drinking (Again the Parents need to take control) The major influence on these troublemakers is Alcohol. Im not in favour of vigilantism but unless the Proper Authorities act then I can understand people wanting to protect their community from these Terrorizers.

Is this going to be gangs of men with baseball bats intimidating young people for daring to stand on street corners at night?
We should be shaping an Ireland based on full respect for the human and civil rights of all our people, an Ireland of which Larkin and Connolly would be very proud.

Residents in Rosemount in Londonderry have said they will take to the streets to challenge teenagers engaging in anti-social behaviour in the area.
At a public meeting in the area on Tuesday, people said they were being terrorised at weekends by groups of up to 300 young people.
Community worker Tommy McCourt said local people had no alternative but to take action.
"It has got to a point where people's lives are being destroyed," he said.
"We are making an appeal to the teenagers themselves to ask them if they could stay away from the area and give people a chance.
"The PSNI are saying if they come and there are hundreds of kids drinking it could spur on a riot.
"If that doesn't reduce the problem this weekend, the next step is that the residents are saying they will take to the streets," said Mr McCourt.
'Tortured'
Lily O'Hagan, who has lived in the area for 80 years, said the situation was unbearable.
"Every weekend we are tortured. It makes me feel like a prisoner."
"They run around with their vodka bottles and their cans of beer, and when they're drunk they come screaming and shouting and pull out the plants and use the front gardens as toilets," she said.
Another resident, John Donaghey, said he was now too frightened to leave his home.
"People are living in fear and our health's going down because of it.
"There is no peace at all to live, and you feel terrified.
"You're afraid to go out on your own because you don't know what's going to happen to you," he said.
The PSNI's Area Commander in Derry, Chief Inspector Chris Yates, said the police were aware of residents' concerns and were committed to tackling the problem.

What, become scumbags? Because that is exactly what you are calling for. I can completely understand why nationalists would have an issue with the PSNI but for some things, transcendence of traditional tribal thinking is required, an example being perhaps a serial rapist operating across the political & religious divide.
I cannot imagine even the most fervant nationalist having an issue shopping this type of person to the police, but when it comes to public order, what constitutes chaos and what constitutes culture? A group of men storming down a road at a random time making inflammatory statements and being triumphalist in the midst of their opposites might be seen as yobbish behaviour, dress them in a hat and give them a brolley and a background of it being there 'culture' and all of a sudden its OK. Oppress a people and watch them march peacefully calling for peace and its OK, start throwing petrol bombs or bricks and all of a sudden it's a riot. Complaining about being marginalised in a peaceful manner is OK, throwing devices, abuse and worse at children gives answer to questions of marginalisation in my opinion.
If there is an implicit bias evident above, it is due to my particular view of the norht, but I try not to be so bias - nonetheless, I identify with one tradition and not all with another. There is a long way to go to understanding, but calling for summary justice is never the answer and divides communities even more so.
If I could mass-sterilise the planet, I would. Seriously.

A parade by their houses at 8am every Saturday and Sunday with Lambeg drums will waken them from their drunken stupor.

I don't know what part of south Belfast your from but that sounds really rough!.....Whatever. Anyway, this is really a key reason why P&J powers need to be devolved intimidatly. People are literally crying out for the cops to do something in Rosemount up in Derry or they'll go out and do it themselves. Safer Neigbourhood Projects should also be allocated more resources to act in a supporting role. What do the stoops suggest? And yes, they are thugs. We can't put this down to the kids having nothing to do again, they are right beside the city centre for crying out loud.
