Ex-IRA prisoners seek compensation for wrongful imprisonment

    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ire ... 51692.html

“Around 300 republican inmates are to allege that confessions were extracted from them under duress amid mistreatment in Northern Ireland security force holding centres.

Many ex-prisoners cannot find jobs, insurance or loans because of their convictions. They are barred from entry to countries like the US.”

Given all that has been alleged, and in some cases proved, about RUC abuse of people in custody, it’s entirely possible that a number of these men will have their convictions quashed.

Better late than never, I suppose. What price do you put on a ruined life?

This could prove to be very divisive in Northern society. Presumably each case will have to be heard seperately over a long period of time. Personally I feel for the victims' families. Imagine after all these years hearing that Another was appealing his conviction after first dealing with seeing the culprit get early release. Surely if there was a case to answer these men/women would have appealed sooner. Will loyalists follow suit?

When are the next Assembly elections? There could be a few jobs coming up then....Fairly obvious they can't get loans if they don't have a job and probably can't afford insurance if this is the case
