Is this the same Martin McGuiness who within four days of the atrocity reminded all Republicans that they should not give any information of the bombing to the RUC or indeed to the Garda as they could not be trusted to hold on to this information saying the Garda would pass it on.
By making this statement and endorsing SF policy he denied justice to those who suffered.
As someone who lived in Omagh for many years and knew some who were killed and injured I found his presence today difficult to accept.
Many people living in Omagh today would find his current attitude to passing information to crown forces difficult to accept when it has been proven that the same crown forces were heavily involved in the Omagh atrocity and continue to be heavily involved in armed militant activity today.Originally Posted by ulsterfan

I always find it somewhat sickening that the people most responsible for lack of peace in NI for years, Paisley, McG and the bearded one etc etc etc are now (were recently) in power and lauded for bringing peace to the North when in fact they were the greatest barrier to it for years. On the other hand the people who were advocating such peace/held more reasonable views for years are now ignored and somewhat forgotten ( Hume, Trimble, Mallon etc).
Thats life I guess.

How the ************************ did Trimble hold more reasonable views for years? He was elected to the leadership of the UUP precisely because of his hardline and bigoted views.

No, the UUP and SDLP couldn't make an Agreement that stuck. The SDLP were frightened of being ouflanked by SF/IRA and were scared on moving on without them when SF/IRA made no progress on decommissioning. The (or at least Trimble) were stupid enough to beieve Tony Blair that he would not allow SF/IRA into the executive without decommissiong. When the public (quite rightly) rejected them and the Belfast Agreement in favour of the DUP, SF/IRA and The St.Andrews Agreement, there was a deal that has SO FAR worked quite well.Originally Posted by corelli
Nowadays the the UUP are depending on doing a deal with the Conservartives, while the SDLP seem to have become completly paralyzed, awaiting a decision on FF's involvement in N.I. politics.
