    Another Iris rant?

Iris Robinson, a DUP politician and wife of the first minister, is at it again. Speaking her mind, that is. She has come out strongly against abortion on BBC Northern Ireland. This follows her remarks on gays needing psychiatric help. Without this thread turning into an Catholic church bashing thread, does Iris have sympathy with in a lot of the catholic flock in the North of Ireland? And if so, on morality issues such as homosexuality, divorce, abortion, etc etc, Sinn Fein does not represent their supporters.

I read somewhere that NI is the most homophobic part of the developed world, with something like 40% of people admitting they would not accept having a gay couple as their neighbour. We in the Republic were only a few places further back. It's the influence of religion.

Can't say I blame them. Look at what the people of the Shankill had to put up with for years with Johnny and Gina as their neighbours.

Thranduil, I suppose the influence of religion can be seen as good or bad. You do not state which side of the fence you stand on. My father once said that were all accidents of birth, I could have been born a Johnny Adair loyalist paramilitary side kick. But we are who we are, and coming from my background, I follow roman catholic teaching.Yet as a republican, politically my road veers off, from Iris"s. Some people say that religion should not play a part in politics, but surely morality should. Especially with regards our politicans, ie; they say that power corrupts. Dont we know it! The thought of the alternative, of Ireland becoming a mirror image of England (morally), frightens me. Even more than running out of beer

Why? Because they would both go to the bar to get their own rounds in?

I think Robinson said something along the lines of how it was the job of those in government to uphold God's law.

If she means to uphold a Free Presbyterian interpretation of God's law, then no, I don't think she has any sympathy with "the catholic flock".

Is Iris a Free Presbyterian? Her husband isn't. I think he is an Elim Pentacostalist. Confusing stuff, this.

Iris isn't a Free P she's some kind of reformed something or other but calls herself a born again christian.

Whatever the hell she is she remains a mentalist and most likely a giant thorn in her husband's side. He's busy trying to move the DUP in a more progressive direction while she's about a heartbeat away from calling catholic women incubators of Rome
We should be shaping an Ireland based on full respect for the human and civil rights of all our people, an Ireland of which Larkin and Connolly would be very proud.

She said she is opposed to introducing UK abortion laws to north. Same position as SDLP, SF, OUP - not sure about Alliance or Greens not that they are in the least relevant anyway.
