All the arms believed to be in the IRA's possession have been put beyond use, international monitoring body confirms.

The IRA has done what no-one else has done, and I wasn't surprized but more annoyed than usual actually, that the DUP (Morris Morrows speaking on BBC Newsline) were not prepared to believe the IRA and establish devolution with Sinn Féin 'for years', as Morrows put it. This clearly proves that the DUP are just bigots, and now that a United Ireland has more of a chance of happening, are afraid to go forward.

I, for one, am prepared to trust that the IRA has done what is necessary regarding disposal of weaponary. Is it possible that individual members have hung unto the odd handgun and a few rounds of ammo? Sure it is, but I don't think that possession is the issue, it would be an issue if such items were to b used.

I think we need to now maintain a strong line that volunteers should engage in no activity whatsoever and that the executive should be timelined to be restored if the IMC gives a clear bill of health to the ceasefire in the new year.
If that is the case, then restore the assembly and executive with or without the DUP. In fact, I would suggest that 8 SF and SDLP members could temporarily designate themselves as unionists and vote for Empey as First Minister if the DUP don't play ball. Then once the British government introduces new legalisation regarding the PSNI, get SF to join the policing boards and then have fresh elections on bread and butter issues next autumn.

I'm partially surprised at the strange manner in which comments and threads of this seem to located all over the place.
Dan Sullivan. I was back but we still couldn't all have a vote.

your right to a point, the issue has to be rased as mush as possible, but if they were truely serious about democracy in the 6 if they truely detested violance then sf wouldn't have to push them on the issue, they'd be doing it any way. what they want is contanement, the last 10yrs has shown that a certin level of loyalist violance and intimidation is exceptable to them, thats something that we have to deal with again, alot of the reasons for the reemergance of the army in 69 still exist. don't expect FF or FG or blair to do it for us, they never did. in a few months or, more likely weeks there going to circle the wagons find some coman ground and start on us again most likely policing, if were serious about transforming this country reling on them is foolish we need to start undermining there position, it's going to be a brave SF activist thats going to go on to the shankill to organise but thats whats needed were stong enough to do it now. by taking on unionism ideologicly on the streets is the only means at our desposal to defend nationalist area's, i'd prefere comrade kolaskiscov but this is the way it is. the brit's aren't going to do it the free staters aren't going to do it the DUP aren't going to do us any favours as things stand the world is great for them so why should they. of course raise the issue if you don't ask you can't get, but don't expect to much.
