english prime minister for the union

Why is it that the english population do not seem happy to have a prime minister from the other parts of the union. Is gordon brown that much worse than Tony Blair. Was Neil Kinnock inferior to John Major. When faced with the possibility or the reality of a prime minister from there smaller partners they seem to find unsuitable qualities in the candidates.I believe that were I from scotland/wales/nothern ireland that I would have great difficulty in excepting that there was no one from my part of the union suitable for the job. This has not always been the case and may be further evidence of tensions in the union

Re: english prime minister for the union

I think English are more irritated at the fact that representatives from the other nations of the UK can vote on English affairs (including vetoing free tuition fees at one stage) but English MP's have no say on the affairs of those other regions, they see it as a matter of inequality. The SNP are needling the English on this matter - to encourage a spirit of support for separation among the English - which will benefit Scottish independence aspirations .

From where i stand, the English have ultimate control over the north of Ireland and we cant even vote on their parties.

Tony Blair is Scottish and they seemed happy enough with him.

John Smith would have romped to victory but for his premature death.

Did you ever think that the fact that Brown is pyschologically flawed and the fact that Labour under Kinnock were insane might be the problem as opposed to anything else?

Apart from Blair and Brown as PM's, most of the senior posts in the Westminister cabinet have been held by Scots for over 10 years.

I don't care where our Labour PM comes from but it would be nice to a have a socialist one and not these new Labour types.
