    Biffo's position on the north

Now that Brian Cowan has been left as the last man standing for the FF leadership, how will he differ from Bertie in regard to the north?

Unlike Bertie Cowen is a republican and not a "fixer" at heart. That said he will be biting his tongue a lot with the current peace process. Hopefully he won't tramp on morals like Ahern did over the murder of Paul Quinn.

If he can act like a Republican and persue a path to Unity then he will differ in everything regarding the north.

Judging by his girth, he'll probably try and eat it.

He won't. There's consensus in FF and the rest of the parties in this country on N.I.
The Mahon Tribunal found Olivia Mitchell to have received an inappropriate payment from Frank Dunlop at the time of the 1992 Election. F.G. Gael has taken no action against her.

What makes Biffo any more of a “republican” than Bertie , or any other Fianna Fail TD for that matter? Is he a closet provo? Does he sing Wolfe Tone songs? What?

I think it forms a greater part of political ideology than Bertie
For a Liberal Fianna Fáil perspective, take a look at

In the short term no difference but with so many of the players of the last 10 years gone or on the way out it's how he plays it as new problems arise in relation to the North that will be interesting to watch.

He might not be so ready to bend the knee every time to British sensibilities.

It is though worth bearing in mind that no FF leader has ever been as 'Republican' once in power than on their road to it.

Depends what you mean by "British sensibilities".
If you mean respect for the rule of law, fair play, etc., then you aare on your own.
If you mean our fellow countrymen of the Unionist persuausion, then you are also on your own.
If you mean selfish English/Welsh/Scottish interests at the expense of out fellow countrymen, then we are finally singing from the same hymnsheet.
