    Newton Emerson.. Sick of Peace!

    Gerry Junior

The Nerd of the North, and Nonsensical Numpty they call Newton Emerson had another supposed ‘satirical’ swipe at Ógra in his Saturday Irish News column. He writes:

“Ógra Shinn Féin has criticised the view that collusion was the work of ‘a few rouge members of the RUC.’ Don’t they know you can’t put lipstick on a pig?”

I know, like yourselves I was falling of the chair after that ingenious burst of comedial wit – NOT!

Although it shows how far reaching the Republican project is, when Unionists like Newton are running around referring to the RUC as pigs.

Imagine describing them as that, disgraceful….. the poor pigs!

You're not from the north, are you?

edit - sorry, misunderstood. That is all part of the article. Leading me to wonder whether the writer is from the north, and if they are, to wonder whether they are old enough to actually remember the RUC.

personally think Newton Emerson is a rather witty political / current affairs commentator, perhaps you guys are just a bit thin skinned ?

tell me did you find Give My Head Peace offensive also ?

I hope whoever wrote that Ogra piece is under 18, it is very juvenille. I like most of Emerson's stuff, usually is very witty and irreverant, but it doesn't always hit the spot.

What is with Ogra putting up his picture and publishing the guy's address?

Portadown News was funny at the time. And he is hell-bent on offense. Bit like Steve Nolan.

hes much better than steven nolan , who is utter rubbish . Emersons very good . Unfortunately hes been on the shinners ************************tlist since the andersonstown news got him sacked from his job in computers or something . His original portadown news site was just a part time thing that attracted a lot of cult interest . The andersonstown news took umbrage at it , because one of their editors had the opinion that his pish poor supposedly satirical column was the norths comedy masterpiece . This resulted in some sparring between the two , in which emersons inteelct and wit beat the shinner hack hands down . So they rang up his bosses and told them hed been posting on his blog during working hours , which tells us all we need to know about their characters . Stinking move . But it attrated so much attention that the sacked emerson was immediately hired by a host of newspapers and even television shows .

seems the shinnerlets havent learned the andytown news lesson . their swipe at emerson is truly pathetic

It just goes to show how poor the standard of satire is in Ireland when Newton Emerson can make a living out of it.

I don't think he inherently tries to be satirical. IMHO Newton desperatly wants to be a proper journalist as his programme about Craigavon showed.

Newtown comes from the new school of "lets glibly paint over the past". His undertones are always given with a wink and a nob. "We all really know who the baddies are, and my community has stood up to them." So he will be beloved by the anti-Republican and pro-British lobby in the South.

Hell, I recently watched a program that blamed the "troubles" in the North solely on those pesky Republicans in the 1950's and 1960's. If not for them, all was rosy in the dell in the North. The average nationalist would have lived in serene and ignorant bliss in the six counties; thinking discrimination was the normal way of life. I'm sure Newtown could have added some witty rapartee to the program to give it a fine gloss.
