The RTE documentary on Ian Paisley MP FM

Did anyone see it? Considering it was the handywork of Tommy Gormon, I thought it was surprisingly balanced. (Mind you it might be worth nothing that not everyone who continually challenges the status quo is necessarily a "trouble maker").

I thought Dr.Pisley came across very well, even though I cannot stand his intertrwining of politics and religeon. There's no question that were he to retire tomorrow, he would go down as one of the greatesyt politicians in the British Isles in the last century plus.
The Mahon Tribunal found Olivia Mitchell to have received an inappropriate payment from Frank Dunlop at the time of the 1992 Election. F.G. Gael has taken no action against her.

Keith, I think it would be worth your while to find a spell-checker and use it. It's difficult enough for us to read your posts, let alone understand what you mean.

    What's RYE?

Ian Piasley PM FM? What's PM? I'm guessing FM is First Minister...

Didn't see it but I have been following this individual's antics these last 40 years. While he might play the part of a reformed character now (and might well be), his role in earlier decades was as a rabble rouser who at times appeared to have an influence over some very sinister elements that he could not have exercised from a distance.

We will probably have to wait for his demise for a fuller picture to emerge about who and what he was up to when the conflict in the North was at its height.

Though it’s a matter of conjecture as to how much will ever see the light of day now…

He may chuckle away with Marty all he likes but we will see who has the last laugh re how he is viewed after he has gone to meet his Maker...

It was a nice peice but in seemed to me to be a bit suger coated. I still find it hard to beleive he's in government with Sinn Fein.

Trimble must shake his head in sheer disbelief at it all.

the Doc has some neck. A consumate politician but he has something that few other politicians have; an unshakeable belief in his God and his destiny. No matter what happens in this mans life, he will always be able to square it with his Lord and say "It was destined to be this way".

    Astonishing stuff.

If Bertie did it he would be branded a cheat, a liar and a charlatan.

the Doc does it and its a "Pauline Conversion on the road to Damascus".

Keith, I thought Tommy Gorman went too softly on Paisley spending no time on what his contribution to loyalist murders had been.
Twenty years ago I worked in east Belfast and got to know a UDA man who had just been released from Long kesh following his attempted murder of a Catholic co-worker, I asked him why he had got involved in this crime, his reply was 'I listened to Paisley'.
This aspect of the reverend's past seemed ignored in Tommy's approach and questions. It might be RTE felt it unnecessary to raise these previous issues directly but this,to me left a void which gapes following last nights watching.
I doube you will agree with this but correct me if I'm wrong.

It did seem to gloss over the more unsavoury aspects of Paisleys political career and concentrate more on his recent conversion to the power sharing institutions. If anything the programme only went as far as to show how both Sinn Féin and the DUP failed with their agendas and have settled for less than they wanted.
