Wow, there's nothing like the Antrim loyalist brethren for bloody-minded bigotry:
The above translated and distilled equals 'Taigs out!'Glebe Park in Rasharkin is one of the places wanting bilingual signs featuring English and Irish but Councillor Wilson said if the signs ever come to be in place it will "take away all Britishness out of the village".
He said the Protestant community in Rahsarkin "have been discriminated against by sectarian hatred" in recent times and referring to the flying of the Irish Tricolour in the village said there were displays of flags and emblems "which don't belong to the country".
Wait until someone sits the poor fella down and tells him he lives on an island called Ireland.. Such a bubble bursting revelation will be enough to send him catatonic.
"The Council of Ministers will have far more power over the budgets of the member states than the federal government in the United States has over the budget of Texas"
Jean-Claude Trichet.
Ah sure as long as they're in Oooooster Scaaawts as well.
He's an angry little man, isn't he?![]()
A poster of some consequence...
If Northern Ireland is British as the DUP claim then it stands to reason that its indigenous languages must be British too!Originally Posted by Cloigeann

Ah Baile na Manaigh - town of the monks (or is it Baile Mona - town of the turf?, the auld sod).
73.5% are of a Catholic/Nationalist background, so t'would seem the general inhabitants DO want the signs, or at the very least it wouldn't bother them - the mayor should have taken a stand imo, bit gutless not to form an independent opinion.
Neither. It's baile monaidh, town of the moor.Originally Posted by Podolski

I'm confused? Are Welsh language signs in Wales a threat to 'Britishness'? Should he go there and tell the Welsh this too? Should the use of Scottish Gaelic also be challenged?
This is proof that Northern Unionism is a very confused, artificial culture - the whole point of the so called 'union' is that it is a union of England, (part of) Ireland, Scotland and Wales. However, the Unionists seem to want to be some kind of proto English culture (lets face it, how often do you see the frantic and enthusiastic waving of Union Jacks in Cardiff or Edinburgh that you would see in England or the North of Ireland).
