    The main diffence

The main difference is that the A.O.H has been loosing members and

influence for decades. They are now seen as a joke in the South Of Ireland

and havn't had much of contribution to the body of Irish Government for

years. The U.S group is largely a sort of nostalgia industry but now even

their control of the New York St Patricks Day parade is being chalenged.
Do you want to defy pigeon holes and at the

same time avoid designer synicism Laugh with

    Well that explains a lot

Steve2005 seems to think it's a good thing that in the year 2007

there continues to be a big part played in other words an interference

in day to day politics and business in Ulster by a group which to all

intents and puposes is a fringe lunatic biggotted phobic backs to the future

unelected group. Well that explains a lot.

    The Hibernians

The AOH were a huge organisation in both Scotland and Ireland, but are now a shadow of their former selves.

Up to the 1930's in Scotland, they were able to mobilise up to 40,000 people at their demonstrations. Before the advent of the NHS the 'Hibs' were a major benefit and insurance organisation which paid death grants to members.

In the 1930's their parades were attacked by Billy Fullertons 'Billy Boys' and more or less decided to stop their parading tradition. The AOH also disbanded numerous flute and pipe bands, many of which then joined the National Unemployed Workers Movement, which was organised by the Communist Party of Great Britain.

By the time the 'Hibs' began to parade again they were never able to mobilise the numbers that participated in the inter-war period.

By the late 70's/early 80's they were decimated by the emergence of the Republican Band Alliance among young militant republicans, who organised about 60 flute bands in the 80's, 90's and up to the present day.

The AOH now barely exist in Scotland, and while at one time they had social clubs and 'divisions' of members throughout the West of Scotland, they are now reduced to 2 social clubs, one in Carfin and the other in Port Glasgow.

This is the NYPD branch of the AOH in action. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=xgPhr8qey6I And this. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=A2qPuf5CJEk Seems like great craic to me. Unlike this Orange Order item which seems based on pure insecurity in their "culture" and blind sectarian hatred. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=YqsEpiMhxvQ
