    Fire in Omagh

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2007/1113/omagh.html

A number of people have died due to a fire, only very small amount of information being released. Anyone hear anymore details?

Sky News have said the same as that RTE report, just that a number of people have died, no further information

It annoys me regularly when i see the amount of 2 story houses with only small limited opening windows upstairs.
I think its actually illegal now to not have a large opening fire exit window on the upper floor of a house but the smaller opening windows are cheaper and are still used, although saying that if your smoke alarm isnt working the smoke will kill you before you even feel the heat from the fire.

    Some more news just in.

Mr McGowan said that five children and a father and mother lived in the house and had been resident there for about four years.

"There's nothing left but four black walls," he said.

Very sad, especially so close to christmas.

It is feared that the entire family is dead - seven people - apparantely neighbours could see them upstairs but could do nothing to help due to the intensisty of the fire.
As someone from the district this is a real tradegy and my heart goes out to them. My thoughts and prayers are with their relatives.

    May they Rest In Peace

There is talk that a criminal investigation may be launched now.

To be honest my first thought before I heard anyone was killed was that this was probably a loyalist attack in response to the two attacks on the PSNI men in the previous couple of days.
