    UDA 'shot officer' during rioting

The UDA was responsible for shooting a police officer during the summer, a report is expected to say.

Wonder if this will be enough for the cops to start taking them seriously and crack down?

One would need to still remember that regardless of the name change and the support of PSF, the police in the 6 counties are still a subsidiary of the British government and as such will be biased towards Loyalism.

Also I would imagine that just like the various Provisional Movement operations over the past few years this will be played down for fear that the house of cards i.e. Stormont comes down around their ears.

We are day and daily hearing of the UDA's involvement in drug pushing yet to try and normalise things here there are those who would fawn over the representatives of these thugs, (who are no different from the savages they claim to represent other than they have managed to swap the hoddie and baseball cap for a suit), giving them legitimacy, and pretending they have anything relevant to add to society.

You would have had a valid claim to say the RUC may have been bias towards loyalism, but how can the current PSNI be with sectarien 50:50 recruitment?

Because there are still many officers in their midst from the RUC who are protestant, OO members and sectarian. You can change a title, uniform and cap badge overnight. It takes years to change a mindset.

You'd be surprised how quickly that has changed. Not only is it a generational thing it was change that was driven from within. A new dispensation required a new type of policing and in that sense I think the PSNI is a success. I mean, look at some of the Life & Times survey results.

Well said Aindriu. As the Unionist politicians claim, the Provos may have decommissioned but you can't decommission the mindset!

The RUC (for let's face it that is what they really still are despite the veneer of the PSNI) are still a division of the British government, and are still implementing British law in part of Ireland. Naturally as Republicans are against this situation and the Loyalists are for it, the RUC will come down on the side of the Loyalist. We need to keep in mind that during the past few decades British police as in Special Branch, operated many within the Loyalist terror organisations and there were RUC men and women who,'lost' weapons and intelligence only for them to turn up in the hands of the various Loyalist terror groupings. Indeed members of the RUC have been members of these groups also.

Also as I have said it is important for those in power - the British/DUP/PSF alliance, that nothing rocks their situation, that is why the Provos get off with murder, the DUP get off with their cronisim, and the British and their agents are always untouchable.

That situation can't hold anyway, if Irish history teaches us anything its that there is a good while of peace then it hits the fan again, except this time the numbers are turning in our favour slowly and Britain isin't a superpower and can never invade Ireland again (unless of course if we fly a plane into big ben ).

True, like you say our history has a way of repeating itself and unfortunately this time around we had the Provisional movement do more to cement the 6 counties in the 'Union' that to help liberate us. The only thing is, while we wait for the farce to dissolve, we are left with the opportunity for the PSF/DUP/British group to brainwash and manipulate Joe and Josephine public into their peculiar mindset. In turn this keeps the people in their subservient role to the British authorities. Not acceptable to those of a Republican mind.

I don't want to sound condascending but it sounds as if you aren't old enough to remember the reality of the conflict here. We are never going to be in a position to defeat the Brits militarily nor should we want to use force and coercion against Unionism. You hit the nail on the head when you said "the numbers are turning in our favour slowly" and ultimately that will lead to a United Ireland with minimal conflict. There will always be a residual Loyalist intransigency but they can only be dealt with through overt lawful means.
    Brits out!
