Sinn Féin Minister tells young Irish people to move to UK

    From SDLP press release:

SDLP Newry and Armagh Assembly Member and Deputy Chair of the Assembly's Education Committee Dominic Bradley MLA has expressed his sincere disappointment at a reply from Education Minister Caitriona Ruane on what progress has been made in reducing the number of young teachers on the substitute teachers' roll, who have not yet been in full-time employment in teaching.

Mr Bradley said: "It is totally unacceptable that these teachers, 3176 female and 695 male, should be told by the Minister to go elsewhere to gain employment. The Minister suggests that teachers should go to England, Scotland, or Wales to gain employment.

"We have suffered emigration for long enough in this country and for a so-called Republican Minister to suggest that our young teachers take the emigration boat to England to gain employment is a total affront to them."

Typical Sinn Fein crap, is it any wonder the DUP have no problem with them any more?. They have lost all credibility.

This might sound like a really obvious question.. but are there simply more trained teachers than jobs in the 6 counties.. and if there are, what do you suggest the Minister do, create jobs simply for people to fill them, regardless of their necessity ?

Yes, have you never read 'North South Makes Sense', a document drafted by the SDLP with input from each of the main southern parties? Unlike SF, the SDLP has actually drafted a framework for reunification, rather than pointlessly grandstanding and calling for Green Papers and the like. Don't wait for it to happen- make it happen.

Let me brief you further. One of the main problems is that retired teachers are regularly re-employed as substitute teachers, despite the fact that they are in receipt of a pension and that there are scores of newly qualified teachers on the dole. So while some new teachers get subbing work but can't get permanent employment, for many others this means that they a) can't earn money from subbing, b) can't get experience, and c) can't get their foot in the door because it's being blocked by old teachers. The department has done nothing to stop this. Additionally, for those young teachers who wish to remain in Ireland and teach south of the border, Minister Ruane has refused to provide for initial and in-service training for the scrudú qualification, essentially resulting in 'British' teachers being produced for a 'British' system.

The implementation of the Curran Inquiry proposals on a guaranteed first year of employment, two days' administration time for principals of small primary schools, along with 10% planning, preparation, and assessment time would go a long towards providing employment for teachers on the substitute teachers' roll, who have not yet been in full-time employment in teaching.

The PSF crowd want Irish people to emigrate, and foreigners to immigrate.

Well, I'm going nowhere, and Gerry Adams can go to hell!
