    Omagh memorial in inscription row...

    From the bbc:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/6999827.stm

Did the SF council object to the inscription and if so why? What are the two sides of the story?

If there's another thread about this please re-direct and lock, but I couldn't see anything on the Search.

The inscription on any Omagh memorial should be kept simple and concise. I have heard the proposed inscription on the radio and it mentions "dissident republican bomb". If Sinn Féin are objecting on those grounds then they are correct to do so in light of the revelations in regard to RUC special branch, the Gardaí and Brit intelligence. There was obviously more to the appalling atrocity than just a "dissident republican bomb" and to mention this exclusively without alluding to the police/spook involvement is unjust. The memorial needs to commemorate the victims without further exploiting their sufferring for political point-scoring.

Jesus.....let the families of the victims put whatever they want on their memorial.

I know that the reported position is that RUC/Intelligence services in their best endeavours suffered a failure of communication, and/or in hindsight didn't accord certain intelligence its due weght, but is the SF Council suggesting that the authorities (and not that IRA splinter group) were responsible for the bomb?

Don't want to mow anyone's lawn here, I'm perfectly prepared to change name - can someone tell me how to do so?

Asking Sinn Fein what should be on the Omagh memorial is like asking Hitler what should be on the Auschwitz memorial.
Do you support the 32CSM? All of Ireland think you are murdering scum, worse than paedophile priests.

I believe it should be the families off the bomb victims that should decide what the wordin should be on this new memorial.

The truth of the matter is it was dissidant republicans who planted the bomb that caused the deaths of 28 people in Omagh on 15 August 1998.

They should simply refer to "victims of Irish republicanism"
