    Who really are Cairde Na hEireann?

    I have recently watched a Calton™ Production® on Youtube about a so called
    Cairde Na hEireann protest in Glasgow in 2006 (the video is embedded here).

    Having never heard of this said republican group before, I decided not to rely on calton's own synopsis of the group (who incidentally describe it as being pretty much a sectarian, bigoted terrorist linked group) and conducted my own (wikipedia) research. According to wikipedia:

    Membership of Cairde Na hEireann is open to anyone regardless of faith,race,sex,sexuality,nationality. The stated aims of Cairde Na hEireann are to [1]:

    * campaign for a united Ireland;
    * support sister organisations in Ireland;
    * promote a new Ireland based on the principles of justice and equality;
    * support initiatives aimed at improving the material conditions of the Irish community in Scotland
    * campaign against racism and sectarianism.

    Nobel ambitions enough one might say.

    Those ideals expressed in the Wikipedia page differ greatly from the Calton™ Production® interpretation. So I therefore ask, which description is correct? Who are these Cairde Na hEireann folk? From watching the clip that I have embedded in this post it would appear to me that both Calton™ and Cairde Na hEireann are like for like...i.e bigoted sectarian rubbish. Am I right? (Note that many of those protesting about the protest are indeed linked to/members of Calton™)

    Cairde Na hEireann Scotland, (English: Friends of Ireland) is an Irish Republican aligned organisation best known for the annual James Connolly march through the streets of Edinburgh and for the Bloody Sunday march each January in Glasgow.‮

    I have been to the Bloody Sunday march in Glasgow this year and will be going to another Cairde event on Saturday in Liverpool, it will mark the great contribution that a son of Liverpool James Larkin made to Ireland. This person along with Connolly embody the anti-sectarian nature of Republicanisim. I think it's great that this organisation continues to make people aware of this in England and Scotland, I know many of the induviduals involved and as far from biggots you could not find, if you ever find yourself in the Gallowgate with half an hour to spare you will be made very welcome in thier offices, although I have to say I am not surprised that those aligned with the BNP and other far right groups try to paint another picture!!

    Did Cairde na hÉireann not cease their Connolly commemoration?

    I think some may be getting Cairde na hEireann - a support group for the Republican Movement (Provisional), in Scotland, with 'Calton Radio', a militant anti-Irish and anti-Catholic organisation which sometimes publishes material under the name 'Calton Productions', a bit of a strange name to use, given that the Calton and Gallowgate districts are probably - along with the Garngad - the most republican orientated parts of Glasgow.

    I am not a member although many of my friends are. It is a non sectarian organisation which campaigns for a united Ireland, and has faced horrendous police, loyalist and extreme right provocation, including organised attacks on its demonstrations since its inception.

    They have been prevented from marching through the centre of Glasgow - claim it is an example of anti-Irish racism.

    From what I can see, (embedded video) Cairde na hEireann look a very sectarian organisation.

    I dont see any attacks on the demonstration in the video.
