    easter rising

Why was the commemoration stopped in the 70's.
acccording to wikipedia it was because conor cruise though that the violence in 1916 was no different to that of the republican violence in belfast and armagh.

    Whats people views on this?
'given the shocking and appalling culture of collusion and illegality' within the RUC, 'one would wonder what other unacceptable practices remain hidden from the public'.

Do you not know that Pearse and co were all from West Belfast and that the rising actually took place outside the Guild Hall in Derry. It was a brutal propaganda act that led to the now wide spread belief that there actually was a rising in Dublin.

In fact in his book The Forgotten six Gerry Adams explains how he led the rising in the 6 counties actually liberating them, but Republican dissidents fooled the people into believing that it all took place in Dublin with Pearse, Connolly and others actually leading the rising. Martin/J118 has stated that this is true!!

Just like the Eirígí protest was in Dublin and their commemoration will be in Dublin also.

Thought you felt such topics should be in the N Ireland forum?
