    It was an event waiting to happen - the Provos weres saying it publically in the weeks running up to it.

    Obvious from Day 1 it was a bloody fiasco for the Brits, - IIRC 14 people died that day alone.

    I wonder how that would have panned out on Politics.ie if the Internet had been around at the time?

    Or it could be that the wise words of Eoghan Harris are bearing fruit. Some people need to move on.
    The Mahon Tribunal found Olivia Mitchell to have received an inappropriate payment from Frank Dunlop at the time of the 1992 Election. F.G. Gael has taken no action against her.

    Oh, enough of your crocodile tears. Truth is, internment without trial was the making of the Provos. Best Recruiting Sergeant they ever had. British folly on a grand scale - on a par with that of executing the leaders of the 1916 rising.

    Agreed, kept them alive for years, then when it's effects were wearing off , along came Maggie's mishandling of the hunger-strike issue. Provo's should have a statue of her in Connolly House ( ? ), she did so much for them !

    I'd say the best Recruiting Sergeants the IRA ever had was not Internment but;

    August 14/15, 1969 and Bloody Sunday.....
