Phase 1 of the Northern Ireland Census 2011 due out July 16th. What to expect?

I read that the first phase of the census results will be published next week. Will there be anything interesting in it?

I think its just population they will be focusing on. If anything is to be expected its that Northern Ireland's population has increased to about 1.8 million.

Religion and all the other major demographics will be released later this year or early next year.

I think it may give us a more definitive date for Brit withdrawal.

Last time [2002], there was talk prior to the release of the religious breakdown of results, that they were delayed from the usual date [what ever that was], to be released well after the marching season, which encouraged some nationalist politicians to think the margins would be a lot narrower than they were finally revealed to be.

Information on population change wouldn't be able to provide any information like that. I'm sure some people, like yourself, will try and come up with theories how it does though.

Theories are one thing, facts and figures are really something else.

I think it will show the flood of foreigners in to NI is out of control with the dramatic rise in those self identifying as Jedi.

In fairness, I've found that a light saber is the only thing capable of opening a pack of Denney's bacon without endangering my teeth

The census figures will reveal who on these threads likes to participate in head-counting.

The rest of us will get on with real arguments.

I guess that UUP/DUP hope that the amount of those self identifying as protestant holds.

Sinn Fein/SDLP will hope for an increase in those self identifying a Catholic.

Alliance will hope for a rise in those self identifying as tossers
