    Ulster Nationalism

Seems to be the buzz word around stormont at the moment, with reg empey accusing paisley of being an Ulster nationalist. He did flirt with the idea in the 70's but could this sort of independence become a reality amonst people of the unionist community.

Funny amongst the nationalist community in the 6 counties, i have heard this arguement come up many a time and most of them seem to be in favour.

Where would republicans stand on this as in 20 years time, especially if scotland receive their independence, the majority of the 6 counties could actually be in favour of this idea!

do you mean the north being independent of both Britain and Ireland?

if so i wouldn't mind if that happened but i think they would have to join the eu immediately to have any chance of economic survival.

ulster would become more peaceful because republicans would be happy that there no longer under british rule.

In the late 70'S Paisley sent a couple of his close friends, McClure and McKeogh to sit down with O'Bradaigh to discuss Eire Nua. The meeting fell apart when CC O'Brien got wind of it and started kicking up a fuss. I have always suspected that Paisley could feel quite at home in a federal Ireland where his religious rights were guaranteed. He has clearly displayed his dislike of the British over the years.

Yes, the 6 counties becoming independent from britain. I think it would kill republicanism as if stormont is seen to be running smoothly enough say in 20 years time, i genuinely believe that the majority of th people would be for it.
There is the eire nua idea were ulster becomes a federal state in ireland but i'm talking more directly of the 6 counties becoming an independent state unlike the whole of ulster in o bradighs eire nua. I do think that it could become a reality. I think nationalists could become some what proud of their state and it could create lasting peace.

    Mildly to say the least.
There's a young SDLP like there's a young or Ogra everything else, incidentally.
