    Unionist Politician Fails

Sunderland winger James McClean has been added to the Republic of Ireland squad to face the Czech Republic next week in Dublin.

It is a first senior call-up for the 22-year-old, who has been in superb form for the Black Cats.

McClean was surprisingly left out of the initial squad, although manager Giovanni Trapattoni said he would be called into the panel "in the future"

It looks like the DUPs' Nigel Dodds' crusade has been in vain.

The young Irishman has been granted his dream.

McClean played for NI's u21s 7 times. Having done so, to declare for FAI is just wrong IMHO. I'm happy that he has gone; NI is small enough and we need all to pull together and play above themselves. We do not need a character like McClean in our team.

On a Political note, as a NI football fan I wish the politicians like Dodds would keep out of the sport. They do more harm than enough elsewhere without contaminating football with their blunderous approach.

It's the only way to sort this situation out. NI fans will not like it but will moan when players make the change later. They cannot have it both ways.

The truth of the matter is that they are reaping what they have sown for decades and I for one have zero sympathy.
