Taoiseach under pressure over victims meeting

A STORMONT minister has slammed the Irish Government for issuing eight months of “holding replies” to requests for a meeting with IRA victims – while giving “almost immediate access” to other Troubles victims.

Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy said yesterday that he had been “continuously” asking for a meeting with the Taoiseach’s office for eight months, but to no avail. He is requesting Enda Kenny meet the families of 10 Protestant workmen murdered by the IRA at Kingsmills in south Armagh in 1976.

imho enda will have to have his 'moment', i doubt it will be as frank as 'call me dave', but expect an 'apology' along the lines of ma'am's...guilt is a terrible thing...

I...I thought we were supposed to be the MOPEy ones? Danny Kennedy banging on the Taoiseach's door like some kind of jilted lover has an awfully pathetic feeling about it. Incidentally, there was a British contingent of MP's who visited NI recently and chastised Kennedy for over-egging the 'plight' of the border Prods by throwing words like 'genocide' around. They thought he was being a drama-queen. I agree with the British MPs, and I imagine Enda Kenny would too.

This whole thing has quite a childish air about it. It's as if the unionists saw David Cameron offered an apology for Bloody Sunday and then, like ikkle babies, screamed "waaaaaaah we want a sorry too!". The fact that they are not entitled to an apology seems to play no part in their reasoning.

what specifically would he apologize for? He certainly hasn't much in the way of republican sympathies himself.

Seems to me odd to expect the Irish state to be apologetic about IRA victims, but not expect the British state to be apologetic about loyalist victims, but maybe that's just me.

Any word about releasing state papers on Dublin/Monaghan?

More unionist MOPEry Don't forget the campaign of genocide Must have been the smallest 'genocide' in history !!!!

" Irish government of the 1970s and late 1960s could have done a lot more to stop the campaign of genocide that was happening in Fermanagh, Tyrone, south Armagh. " BBC News - Ministers' plea to Irish government over republican murder victims

Typical responses. Ulster Scots should just shut up because its your human right to butcher us. So much for the "Peace Process" and the love and cherishing.

No you should shut up because you're a MOPE. Did I get that right? Maybe Cruimh could come along and tell me the correct way to go about dismissing you for a mope.

Alternatively you could respond to some of the substantive issues raised:

    1) why (in your opinion) should Kenny apologize for the various IRA groupings' violence?
    2) why (in your opinion) should Cameron not apologize for the loyalist paramilitaries' violence?
    3) where are the files on Dublin/Monaghan?

The second words like "genocide" get thrown around I switch off. There was no genocide. Ask the British government.

The Irish Government had nothing to do with the likes of Kingsmills, which is why the Irish government is in no rush to pander to Danny Kennedy and his fantasies.

What specific instance do you believe warrants an apology?
