the first instance of the term ‘Ulster Scots’ (used to define the people) in a source dated 8 October 1640 (‘The Life and Original Correspondence of Sir George Radcliffe, Knt.’, cited in James Seaton Reid’s History of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland).

It goes further back than that - the English were using that phrase to attack Ireland since the time of the usurper queen Elizabeth to justify attacks on the McDonnells of Antrim

No it does not prove anything - does the sending to Scotland for a minister for the Presbyterians in Glenarm as they could only understand Gaelic not prove that Presbyterians could be Gaels?

    Just ignore him.

I've had him on ignore for well over a year now as he is a trolling attention seeker from the same mold as Crumb.
The Massachusetts of the Puritans is as dead as Caesar, but there is no need to mourn the fact. Their successors-the Irish-had letters and learning, culture and civilization when the ancestors of the Puritans were savages running half-naked through the forests of Britain. It took the Irish to make Massachusetts a fit place to live in.
