PSNI paid £41 million to Grafton in 3 years

This last month or more, the BBC has been like a dog with a bone over the rehiring of RUC officers whp took their very generous payment and went straight back to working for the PSNI the next Monday.

It started out with a fairly flimsy interview with a seemingly disgruntled ex RUC man who objected to Patton but last week we had former ACC Mc Quinlan putting meat on the bones with a more substantiated account. Tonight we learned of the figure in the headline and the piss poor appearance of Baggot in front of a panel which is unworthy of account.

Questions have now been raised about the recruitment of officers from the heavily discredited Special Branch, soething which would truly be the straw on the camel's back.

to me the key comment is...

"7,900 people left this organisation in the last 10 years, it's more than we actually have in our entire police establishment.

How the hell did the policing board miss all that money going out to agencies?

I can't see the benifit of these guys whether one is talking about the loyalists who are seriously taking the piss out of us all, the dissidents who should have been shut down years ago or the lack of these granny bashing blags in the dock

two sides to every story ..A total of 300 RUC officers have been murdered during the Troubles. The IRA has killed 277, the INLA and IPLO 12 and loyalist terrorists eight. Three were murdered by unknown groups.
Terrorist groups have bombed, shot and beaten RUC officers to death, sometimes killing relatives and other civilians in the process. Levels of stress-related illness have been higher than in any other police force:..Royal Ulster Constabulary

The organisational change precipitated by Patton was too much too quickly with no clear succession planning ,plus a change to politically correct policing plus a rise in dissident threat .Not enough experience in the right place at the right time ,very poor change management .Patton should have been incrementally introduced but political pressure by SF to get rid of "old RUC" crreated this very problem combined with organisational incompetence , lethal mix.
I know of many ex RUC who finished on a Friday and following Monday were either on court duty or cold case cops or raking it in from other interests( Hague Court protection duties).£41 million is an astronomical figure ,£!5m usually pays a wage bill for 250 staff ranging from £8k -to a Chief Executive .Agency of course , get a big slice as well .So, all in all , a poorly planned change situation at great cost to taxpayer.
