I'm glad that soldier's family can draw some comfort from the HET report.
It's an opinion like any other opinion on here, based upon the evidence or more to the point lack of evidence on why she was killed

    Why?
Propaganda. It no doubt created an anti-Irish sentiment.

To strip the locals of their humanity and to use the victim and the circumsances of his death as a propaganda tool. It obviously works as some are still quoting the dying soldier yarn around the Jean Mc Conville killing.

i don't know but a few questions a) who told her this was it the army as in a report? b) an individual? c) mod? d) i am would assume the family would have more satisfaction/relief if the HET investigation brought the murderer to justice would you agree?
His relatives were told no-one tried to help him, and attempts were even made to steal his rifle.

It was also rumoured that local people tried to run off with the body of the 21-year-old soldier.
    e) 'rumoured' where and by who?

You are quite demented if you feel shooting someone was doing them a favour.

As the OP writer has stated the piece is quite clear on the degree of comfort this revelation has provided for the family, try and recognise that.

If you want to discuss the circumstances of the time and why the IRA were killing British soldiers then open another thread.

I take Esk's bona fides at their face value, thanks. If I wanted to be a cynic I'd dig up a thread where the HET and its personnel is blaggarded and I'm sure I'd find you there.
